Young SA Delegates

Personal message

My name is Wandile Msomi from KwaZulu-Natal, a third-year Political Science student in the Nelson Mandela University. I am seeking assistance to get a delegation of five young university students to the WFUNA Model United Nations.

Earlier this year in January 2019 I was elected to chair the very first sitting of the WIMUN International Labour organisation at the United Nations headquarters in New York City and was again later this year appointed at the very first black director of the WIMUN ILO for 2020. The work I have done so far with United Nations has led to some opportunities even though they are few and far between.

I have seen it necessary to come back and try to open the same doors that were opened for me for other gifted black students who ordinarily would not even dream of taking their talents and skills abroad because of various socio-economic conditions. I had the wish to lead a delegation of young bright students to WIMUN New York next year February 28 - March 2, 2020.

When we return from WIMUN we will host workshops designed to pass down the knowledge and the skills we have acquired from the UN to as many underprivileged schools and communities to ensure that the information and skills that does not make it to such communities makes its way there through us. Contributing to us going there would not only be an investment on us but on the future of this country.

This delegation will include capable young students particularly who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and any assistance will be highly appreciated

Funds raised will be used for the following:

  • Flights – R50 000
  • Accommodation – R20 426
