William is Riding for Anna Foundation

Personal message

The Argus tour is the world’s largest individually-timed cycle race with 35,000 competitors entered to ride this year . We will ride a 109km circuit around the Cape Peninsula with plenty of long climbing over the mountains.

I entered and completed the Argus cycle tour in 2012 at age 12 (despite the 40 degree heat!).  Now that I'm 13, older and much wiser I want to make the most of this year's ride and through my sport, raise funds for the Anna Foundation children who live on farms (many of whom are my age).  I go to a great school and get a good education.  I have lived in Australia (I was born there) and also experienced living in Joburg, Botswana, Canada and now Cape Town, so I have seen the world.  Not all children are that lucky. I want to do my bit and help other children so they can have a better future.

I have done a lot of fun runs with the Anna Foundation and really enjoy being involved with them.  I feel privileged to help the younger children and to share their love of running.  I would like to give back by raising money through my cycling the Argus 2013 and support their Reading, Running, Right-ing programme on the farms.

Here is some other information about me:

Age: 13

Birthday: 24 June

School: Somerset College High School

Loves: I love sport!  I'm a very keen rower and practise 4 times a week, competing in regattas on the weekends.  I also love long-boarding, cycling and computer games.

Hates: I hate keeping my room tidy and eating vegetables.

Fun Fact: I can bounce on a pogo stick with no hands!

PLEASE SUPPORT MY RIDE!

Anna Foundation

Anna Foundation Logo

The Anna Foundation is all about inspiring young people and providing them with opportunities.  The organisation implements afterschool programmes on farms or rural low income schools in the Western Cape, currently in the municipal districts of Stellenbosch, Cape Town, Langeberg and the Overberg.  The Anna Foundation aims to empower disadvantaged rural children with life skills and core values, building self-worth and self-responsibility. The organisation’s “3Rs programme: Reading, Running, Right-ing” is implemented during after school hours and incorporates education (literacy), sports (running, riding and sports development) and life skills programmes (presented through drama).  Women and men from farming communities are trained by the Anna Foundation to run their 3R’s programme, and teenager and parent workshops are also provided.
