World Choir Games 2020

Personal message

The Choir’s dream is to sing at the World Choir Games in Belgium, July 2020. In order for us to fulfill this goal, we urge you to be part of our journey by donating something towards the members of the Choir. Your donation will help with traveling costs, Accomodation & Competition costs.  The Choir members are all Scholars, who can not afford the trip. Their parents are seasonal & farm workers who only work from November to February. The dedication that the kids have shown thus far puts them in a reputable position for one to dig in their pockets and give a generous donation. They have obtained: - Gold Certificate in Tshwane @ the World Choir Games 2018, having no formal background in music.  - Won the ATKV Suidoosterfess Choral competition Youth Category in 2018 Cape Town, and became 2nd overall in the Competition. The Choir has stood the test of time with limited to non-resources, true reflection of determined youth. We plead that you support us in our initiative and help a child fulfill their dream of going overseas to share their music and explore on collaborative workshops with professional choirs & world renowned conductors. Please follow us on Facebook for our progress and videos -  https://www.facebook.com/zolaniyouthchoir/   If an individual can pledge a minimal amount of R100 - we would be very close in fulfilling our dream. We plead that you support this worthy cause by donating what your heart & pocket allows you to give.  A hand that gives, receives the most.

The Zolani Youth Choir

The Zolani Youth Choir Logo

The Zolani Youth Choir hails from a small town called Ashton, in the community called Zolani (Western Cape). When Odwa Mvunge returned to his birth community in 2012, after completing his music education studies at Nelson Mandela University. There still was no place in Zolani for youth toexpress themselves in cultural activities that was not offered at school nor in the community. After school the youth would loiter around without direction. This Lead the formation of the Zolano Youth Choir. The basic idea and purpose of the Choir is to equip outh of our community with basic music skills. The Choir consists of 30 scholars from different schools who are between the ages of 12 and 25 years.

These scholars have no professional training or background in formal music, but have proven to have passion and love for the art. Our first priority is for the choir to become a trademark attraction which will represent Ashton far beyond the region's borders. The main objective of the Choir is to demonstrate to scholars and the community at large that if you place your heart, dedication and energy into something, anything can be achieved. The conductor tries to impliment a basic understanding of rules and group dynamics. If members fail to adhere to these, they have to deal with the consequences and in the worst case, are expelled from the choir. Singing and engaging in a Choir teaches the students discipline and morals and helps them to look at the world from a different perspective. Our main goal for the future is to be recognised amongst the best choirs in South Africa, and eventually represent Ashton in particular and South Africa as a whole on overseas tours. The Choir project is meant to serve as an educational tool to help our kids find worth in them.
