Yiba Mkhulu COVID-19 Relief Fund

Personal message

We are Yiba-Mkhulu, a volunteer group of young professionals in Johannesburg. Since March 2019, we have been offering academic support (Mathematics, English and Life Skills) to 25 grade 9 learners at Elethu Themba Public School in Lenasia, situated on the outskirts of Johannesburg. The name Yiba Mkhulu comes from the Zulu phrase meaning "become great".

Students enrolled in the Yiba Mkhulu program come from severely disadvantaged backgrounds and the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed many of their families deeper into poverty. Sadly, economic analysts have projected that socio-economic conditions will continue to worsen for low-income households as the impacts COVID-19 continue to weigh down on the whole world. Thus, Yiba Mkhulu would like to raise funds to assist during this time of need.

Funds will be used to purchase food vouchers, gas and electricity as well as to assist with accommodation and transportation needs of the 25 families.

We aim is to assist 25 families with support for the next 3 months i.e. May to the end of July 2020

Thank you for taking the time to learn about our cause and we deeply appreciate whatever you are able to contribute to this end, no matter how big or small.

*Funds raised will be converted into Shoprite, Checkers, Usave and Spar vouchers.*
