Anima is a private remedial therapy centre catering for children in the Overstrand Region with moderate to severe developmental and physical disabilities, including Autism, Down Syndrome, Aspergers, Global Developmental Delay, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, Spina Bifida, Cerebral Palsy, ADHD and Brain Injury.

Our Mission

  • To educate, encourage, build the self-esteem and develop the self-concept of children of all races, cultures and sexes who live with developmental disabilities
  • Regardless of their financial means or social status
  • Through committed, patient, loving and empathic interaction with trained staff and therapists
  • In order to help each child reach their fullest potential, integrate into society, and live a fulfilling life being afforded the dignity and respect that is their right.

The Overstrand Region has very few facilities for the education and care of these children, and many of them arrive at Anima Therapy Centre after a long journey through a system that cannot accommodate them. At Anima, they find a place where they are accepted, respected, included and supported, allowing them to reach their full potential and have their basic rights realised in a holistic and caring environment.

Every child is different, and at Anima, each child enjoys individualised, specialised, therapy-based schooling based on their unique capabilities, personality and learning style, allowing them to flourish physically, mentally and emotionally.

Children at Anima enjoy a varied programme that includes therapeutic interventions, sensory integration therapy, neural integration therapy, creative indoor and outdoor play, social and self-help skills, drama, art, music, dance, and one-on-one academic stimulation according to their developing level of ability.

During the teen years, Anima learners are assisted with work skills training, work placement and workplace integration according to their skills and interests.

Anima caters for children from 7 years old to 21 years old and “graduates” remain members of the Anima Centre with opportunities to join workshops, skills development programmes or just to enjoy the physical and mental stimulation of participating in a community where they have a sense of acceptance and belonging.

Anima constantly strives to keep fees affordable and as such engages in active fundraising to cover their costs and sponsor those children who would otherwise be unable to afford schooling.
