Animal Welfare Society Helderberg
The Helderberg Animal Welfare is currently situated on the Sir Lowry’s Pass Road in Gordon’s Bay but the move to the new premises will commence on the 13th December 2010 to Mansfield Crescent in Gordon’s Bay, almost next door to the Licensing Dept. We shelter approximately 100 dogs and 60 cats at any one time (depending on season of course) The shelter’s aim is to rehabilitate and rehome unwanted animals and to reunite owners with their lost animals. We also have a section dedicated to the treatment and/or sterilization of animal’s belonging to the poor. Once healthy, these animals are returned to their owners. We do not have our own vet on site and make use of various vets in our area, with the Cottage vet being the primary one. We do provide basic primary care on site, to the animals belonging to the poor. More severe cases are taken to our vet. In terms of community work we run a mobile clinic, providing basic primary care on a daily basis. Areas covered once a week are Nomzamo, Tarentaal Plaas, Sun City, Macassar, Eerste River and Chris Nissan Park. Our inspector investigates cruelty complaints and spends a good portion of the day collecting and treating the sick and injured. Focus is given to participation in sterilization projects and education.
