Palliative Care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and thier families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness through prevention of suffering, the early identification and impecable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems which could be physical, psychological or spiritual (World Health Organisation)
Arebaokeng Hospice, which is situated in Tembisa, on the East Rand, is providing Palliative Care through several services for those facing life threatening illnesses in the community. We provide an in-patient unit for short term care - pain management, respite and terminal care; home based care which includes basic nursing care for terminally ill patients and counselling. We also hold several awareness campaigns to break the stigma of HIV/AIDS in the community.
