BEST Centre School
B.E.S.T. Centre School was established in 1999 and focuses on age inappropriate learners between the ages of 14-19. Our Vision at B.E.S.T. Centre is to offer education to young people who have fallen behind in their education or who battle to cope in the mainstream education system. We follow the Western Cape Education Departments’ ABET Curriculum.
Learners find themselves being offered a second chance to get a basic education and can exit with at least a GETC ( General Education and training Certificate) certificate to either access an FET (Further Education and Training) college or to go back to a mainstream school to continue grade 10 and complete matric.
In the 2012, National Education Department’s External examinations 34 of our Level 4 learners wrote the exams in November 2012. Our Learners wrote the 7 learning areas. We received 4 awards for the following categories for the November 2012 Level 4 exams:
Category 1: Excellent centre achievement overall.
Category 2: Centres that have increased their numbers writing and passing.
Category 3: Excellent centre achievement in academic learning areas (Fundamentals and Core). Mathematical Literacy, Life Orientation
OUR LEARNERS: Our learners are from children’s homes: (Boys’& Girls’ Town, St Micheal’s, Leliebloem, St.Francis, The Homestead, Ons Plek, The Bridge, Margarets’ House, Percy Bartley, Baphumelelo, Heatherdale, Cape Town Refugee Centre, Beth Uriel and Cape Town Multiservice Centre) and from communities in and around Cape Town. Those who live with their parents may experience poverty and hunger on a daily basis. 100% of our learners are from previously disadvantaged communities (i.e. 75% African (including African Nationals) and 24% Coloured and 1% White).
