BHCC - Hospital and Clinic Outreach
BHCC - Hospital and Clinic Outreach is a Non-Profit Organisation, established in 1954 and run entirely by volunteers, seeking to preserve dignity and promote wellbeing among severely undernourished and disadvantaged patients in the State hospital and clinic system in the Greater Johannesburg area. We achieve this by providing for the needs of inpatients (hospital necessities and recovery aids; refurbishment projects) and outpatients (soup kitchens and transportation assistance). We are running 14 soup kitchens within chronic treatment clinics (mainly in severely disadvantaged areas such as Soweto, Alexandra, West Rand, etc), to encourage adherence to long-term drug programmes such as ARV treatments and TB treatments, where sporadic attendance leads to drug resistance and deadly secondary illnesses developing. Our beneficiaries are all extremely sick, usually very malnourished, unemployed or unemployable (especially during the initiation phase of their treatments) and come from very disadvantaged communities.
