Fly Kai to New York Campaign

In 2022, she auditioned for the AAB Summer School in New York and obtained a 60% scholarship award, but unfortunately logistical arrangements and financial constraints, made attending last year impossible. 

Far from being ‘defeated’ , she auditioned again this year, and obtained a 50% scholarship, so plans are now underway to raise the necessary funds to get her there in July 2024. The Summer School includes tuition in ballet, other dance forms, performance nights and visits to Broadway. Dancers from around the world get to spend time developing life-long friendships while staying in dorms on the college campus!  

Her love of dance has allowed Kai to perform the role of ‘Clara’ in Veronica Paeper’s,  ‘The Nutcracker’ in 2022, various roles in Robin van Wyk’s ‘Coppelia’ and ‘Peter Pan and Tinkerbell’, as well as in the ‘Dancer’s love Dogs’ 2023 production. 

She dances with Kim Day and Chivaun Weideman at Reddam House Academy of Dance and has been with Cape Junior Ballet since 2020. The opportunity to attend the AAB Summer School in New York will provide Kai with intensive 35-40 hour sessions per week to strengthen her technical skill and ability. Such an opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime experience! 

Funds raised will assist with the additional tuition and accommodation fees, flights and back-up ballet kit and equipment needed to ensure she is able to participate fully in this experience. Every donation gets her closer to her dream… Principal Ballerina!
