Butterfly World Zoo South Africa
Butterfly World Zoo is a secure and safe sanctuary for a variety of 122 species of small wild animals that have been donated by pet-owners or confiscated by authorities from the illegal pet trade.
Our teams serve to educate our over 100 000 tourists, school groups, pensioners, fellow scientists, and conservationists each year. Engaging young and old to learn the characteristics of small wild animals. To appreciate them and to leave in them wild.
In the 21 years since our establishment, we have filled our 80-seater education centre with over 10 000+ school-going pupils, tourists, pensioners and special holiday programmes per year. Our professional educators are tailoring the content and presentations to thrill participants and align this to the Natural Science classes for Grade 4, 5, 6, and 7’s. To experience what they need to know for real, with our live animal ambassadors!
Our immediate community is the impoverished Klapmuts within the tourist and wine meccas’s Paarl, Stellenbosch & Franshhoek within 30kms. Klapmuts being the most impoverished in our district, with the large majority with no income whatsoever. Finding consistent employment, skills and economic growth are arguably the most important goals given South Africa’s dire employment situation and especially crucial to our community.
Our desire is to reach more of the local schools in outside our catchment area and build a program that deepens their nature experience whilst building confidence in our communities to engage nature in a positive way. Were possible also to support development of more nature-based tourism attractions to boost the local economy.
