The Caitlin Deepnarain Scholarship Fund NPC
The Caitlin Deepnarain Scholarship Fund(CDSF) is a newly established NPC registered in terms of the Companies Act 71 of 2008 and Companies Amendment bill of 40 of 2010, CDSF started as a project to assist a medical student whose tuition had to be terminated due to financial difficulties. Intervention by CDSF and its sponsors made it possible for the student to return to university.
CDSF’s primary objectives is to provide access to direct financial assistance, resources and programs to qualifying undergrad students who do not meet the criteria for government funding but have excelled in their scholastic instruction and wish to pursue an academic career in medicine.
CDSF also aims to financially assist Cardiothoracic Surgeons from Sub- Saharan Africa to sub- specialize in Paediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery. Due to the severe rarity of qualified surgeons to perform heart surgery on congenital abnormalities in Africa as well as the lack of proper infrastructure and Heart training team programs (Paediatric Cardiac surgeons, Paediatric Cardiologists, nursing care), sponsoring Supernumeraries has become an urgent mission for CDSF to achieve so that beneficiaries of this fund may practice in their respective countries. CDSF also aims to assist financially in creating these heart training programs so that Paediatric Cardiac Care will be sustainable in Africa.
