Hope for Abie Campaign
Hi, I'm Charlotte and I'm trying to raise funds for Abie. Abie is the granddaughter of my 2 amazing friends, Joyce and Santos.Abie was 5 years old when she had her first epileptic seizure. She's now 12 and has 3 seizures every day!
In 2020 she was formally diagnosed with Intractable epilepsy with left periventricular nodular heterotopia (PVNH). Basically what this means is that the illness is drug-resistant, no medication can control her seizures and due to the heterotopia being on the left side it was deemed inoperable.
Fast forward to 2023 and her amazing medical team have discovered a new, ground-breaking surgery that they believe will give Abie a better life.
This surgery is so cutting edge that only 2 other people in the whole world have had it. It will take about 12 hours and they will cut out the deformed brain cells on the left side. Because it's the left side that is being operated on, Abie will have to relearn how to speak and walk, she will have to adjust to writing with her left hand. These are the complications we know about, depending how the surgery goes there may be more.
The surgery is scheduled for early November at Constantiaberg Mediclinc in Cape Town.
Abie only has a basic medical aid and it will not cover the whole surgery and hospital stay.
We are appealing for funds to cover the medical costs and all extra costs associated with it such as air fares, accommodation, car rental and the many therapies she will need after the operation.
I know in this financial climate it is not always easy to make a monetary donation but you can still help. We ask that you share Abie's story with your friends and families to get as much reach as possible.
We also gratefully receive all prayers over Abie and her family.
Many thanks and God bless. xox
