CodeMakers believes in the power of young people in South Africa and helps them realise their potential by giving them access to tools to learn, create, and become informed. We teach computer coding to learners in low-income communities giving them skills, confidence, and opportunities to create stories, video games, and othe media that they think matter. They have made animations on everything from their favourite TV shows to Youth Month to HIV/AIDS. Coding is a great way to do hands-on science learning while being creative.
To help learners understand career options we are making a series of video interviews of young professionals. So far they have been seen by more than 4000 people both online and in person. We hope to develop a portfolio of videos that span a number of careers.
We have a number of other programmes and ideas all of them focused on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and maths) to empower young people.
