Crisis Text Line South Africa
Crisis Text Line was designed to help people in pain with as little friction as possible. It is not an app. There is no long intake survey. There is no password or fee. We are available via SMS, Facebook Messenger, or WhatsApp – right in your pocket.
We offer crisis counselling via digital platforms to people in crisis, where they are. We take people from (1) crisis to calm, (2) help create a plan for continued health and safety and if needed (3) an active rescue.
HUMAN FIRST. We believe people in pain deserve human-to-human, non-judgemental empathy. We build productsand policies for greater human connection, speed and accuracy.
NON-DISCRIMINATORY. We are a 24/7/365, free services for and individuals regardless of issue, age, race, religion, sexual orientation or gender identity. We’re here for ALL people in pain.
CRISIS INTERVENTION. We help people in crisis: a mental or emotional state that has left the texter in a dangerous condition or unable to cope in a functional or productive way. Our crisis intervention offer in-the-moment support of active crisis situations.
SECURE. We adhere to the highest data security and privacy standards in the world. We protect the privacy of ourtexters like a momma bear protecting her cubs.
BEST-IN-CLASS TECHNOLOGY. We believe texters and Crisis Counsellors around the world deserve fast reliable technology that meet users where they are. Crisis Text Line SA utilizes the same core tech stack including data built out of NYC.
Launching in South Africa during the last quarter of 2019 in 3 languages (English, isiZulu and Afrikaans), other languages to be rolled out over a 24 month period after launch.
