DignitySA is a registered Non-Profit Organisation committed to legalising Assisted Dying and Living Wills, headed by Professor Sean Davison who is also the President of the World Federation of Right to Die Societies.
In 2015 Robin Stransham-Ford was granted the right to an assisted death in the North Gauteng High Court, but unfortunately died a few hours before the judgment was handed down. The judgment was overturned in the Supreme Court of Appeal in 2016 and a new legal challenge has been lodged with the courts on behalf of Dieter Harck - a gentleman living with advanced Motor Neuron Disease.
DignitySA has applied to intervene (join as a plaintiff) in this matter, which application has been objected to by HPCSA. Their objection will be heard in open court towards the end of February 2019. Should we be unsuccessful in our application to intervene, we have simultaneously applied to participate as Amicus Curiae (a friend of the court).
We have also collaborated with COPE (Congress of the People) in their Private Member's Bill (aka The Living Will Bill) in an effort to legalise Living Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney. We are hopeful that this will be debated in Parliament in 2019.
Financially we are entirely reliant upon the generosity of our supporters and appreciate every single donation, large or small.
Sorry, no projects have been created yet.
