Cornea transplant Campaign
Dear All,
I would like to share a deeply moving story with you about my grandson, who is now 24 years old and has faced a lifetime of challenges. From the tender age of 7 weeks, he began wearing glasses due to congenital cataracts, setting the stage for a journey marked by strength and perseverance.
Over the years, he has undergone a series of surgeries at the Eye Institute in Pretoria, each one a testament to his unwavering spirit. In 2010, he took a significant step towards regaining his vision by receiving his first cornea transplant in his right eye. In 2015, he repeated the process for his left eye. Unfortunately, another transplant was needed in 2021.
In 2021, despite the hurdles he had faced, he embarked on a new chapter of his life as a software developer and began his own medical aid coverage. However, over the years, he also had to confront the challenge of glaucoma in both eyes, threatening his precious sight. His immediate need is a cornea transplant for his right eye, but, heartbreakingly, his current medical aid plan does not cover this crucial procedure. Though he has plans to upgrade his plan, he was informed that a transplant will only be authorized after a year on the new plan.
His situation is growing increasingly urgent as his eyes deteriorate rapidly, and the looming threat of blindness from glaucoma becomes more real each day. To save his vision and offer him a chance at a brighter future, we are reaching out to you, our cherished community.
All contributions made here will be dedicated to securing a cornea transplant for this extraordinary young man. Your support not only eases the financial burden but also offers a lifeline to someone who deserves to see the world in all its glory.
We are profoundly grateful for your compassion and kindness in joining us on this journey to protect his sight from the grip of glaucoma.
With heartfelt gratitude,
