Friends of Thandolwethu Association

The association "Friends of Thandolwethu" assists a group of community leaders from Samora Machel township, on the outskirts of Cape Town, in setting up and running the Thandolwethu Early Childhood Development Centre. Our goal is to raise funds to support training of the staff, building the centre, ensuring quality educational activities, promoting and disseminating innovative educational practices inspired by the Reggio Emilia pedagogic approach.

Today the ECD does not exist. The Friends of Thandolwethu are working on various aspects to ensure that it will be operational in 2021 through:

- Support to the project leaders in their training path, with the goal to obtain a qualification that allows them to manage an ECD, and at the same time support their participation in additional training activities specific to the Reggio Emilia approach.

- Assist the project leaders to define a (social) business plan and to form the entity that will manage the ECD.

- Mobilise resources and collaborate on the design of the building that will host the ECD.

- Raise funds to do all the above.
