Huis Talje Children's Home
Huis Talje Children's Home is a home for Severely Physically and/or Mentally Handicapped children.
This is the only community based project that provides total care for severely physically and mentally handicapped children in the Limpopo province, working with the community and government in efforts aimed at stabilizing family life and improving the social and educational environment of these special children.
2018/2019 has been once again a milestone year for Huis Talje Children’s Home. Our Subsidy from the Department of Social Development has remained the same over the past 15 years! (R2 500.00 per child per month) Although we have received funding from businesses, both locally and abroad in support of Structural, as well as much needed and continuous Equipment Maintenance, we will continue seeking support in this regard. We also have to continue to focus on raising funds to cover our running costs for 2019/2020. Currently there are 53 children receiving total care at Huis Talje, 24 hours a day. We maintain the current building to give the children a better quality of life in their already limited referenced world. We still need to continuously maintain the home in terms of Hygiene and repairs. Huis Talje extended our service by providing skills development training to communities where our children originated from. There is a great need to train people from the different Communities and Cultures to enable those communities to be self-reliant and ultimately take care of all disabled people within their own culture. These workshops and training will create work opportunities in a practical way where there are a lot of illiterate and less informed and skilled people. We are glad to say this Project are sustainable and still ongoing with your support and financial assistance. Again, we could not achieve our health care goals for the children without the continuous support provided.
