Team Langebaan Fire Response Campaign
Hey friends near and far!
I am starting this campaign to support my dad and his group of volunteer first responders in their voluntary journey of setting up a fire service in Langebaan. The town in which my parents live does not have a fire service/station, and so they have to rely on the next town over, which has a greater population.
A message from me (Jess): I'm so happy to be able to set up this campaign to help my dad. One of my fondest childhood memories is sitting with my dad and hearing his exciting stories about when he was a firefighter and saving lives. Throughout his life he has used his hardworking hand to help others, and has given me every opportunity I could ever imagine. Now, in his retirement he is using his hardworking hand to start a voluntary first response team, in their South African town of Langebaan. I just hope that i can contribute to their mission with help from my American friends and family! Your dollar goes a long long way in South Africa, so anything you can spare would be greatly appreciated.
A message from Team Langebaan Fire Response:
WHO ARE TEAM LANGEBAAN FIRE RESPONSE?
Team Langebaan Fire Response is a group of trained volunteers in fire fighting and first aid. The unit is headed by an ex-fire commander of 20 years experience.
WHY DO WE NEED TEAM LANGEBAAN FIRE RESPONSE?
Saldanha Bay Municipality Fire Department is based at the air field at Vredenberg and they have to cover a huge area. Langebaan is a town that is expanding at a fast rate and in turn the possible need for TLFR is growing too.
THE ROLE OF TEAM LANGEBAAN FIRE RESPONSE
TLFR will be there to assist the Municipal Fire Department and to cut the response time down to an in incident within Langebaan itself whether it be a residential, commercial, veld fire and road traffic accident.
THE VISION FOR TLFR
TLFR has assessed what is needed and their vision is have 2 vehicles, one to be a water carrying fire truck and one to be a support vehicle carrying equipment and fire crew. This will hopefully be based at the Police Station. Earth moving equipment has been offered for the use of creating fire breaks should a large veld fire occur.
CLOSING STATEMENT
TLFR is a non funded and non profit unit which falls under the wing of Team Langebaan Neighbourhood Watch headed by Johan Coetzee. The unit will be operational from 11th November and will be available 24/7, 365 days a year.
We are in need of funds to acquire a list of essential across the board fire fighting equipment and clothing.
