Brody In Charge Spinal Surgery Campaign

Little Brody a 2-year-old resident from Amanzimtoti who has been living in absolute agony, needs your Help to have the best possible chance at living a normal, Pain FREE life!

Brody has spent more than 70% of his life in Hospital, fighting life threating recurring bacterial infections and undergone multiple major surgeries due to C.H.A.R.G.E SYNDROME over the last 2 years!

Over the last 9 months Brody had been living in absolute agony with Countless Recurring Life-threatening infections and Multiple Skin conditions with Constant Itching & Severe abdominal and body pain.

On the 17th of July 2023 he was re-admitted due to Dermatitis, Infection and sever pain, this is where they discovered he had

• Cyst on his only Kidney, (Kidney failure in 2022)
• Inguinal Hernia,
• Neurogenic Bladder
• Tethered Spinal Cord 
• 2x Neoplasm on Spine 
• Multiple other issues with his Spine.

After doing an MRI, he was diagnoses with Type II Caudal Regression Syndrome!

His Family was then referred to a Urologist for the Neurogenic Bladder, due to Brody no longer having control of his bladder and with his bladder not emptying out, he was adding presure to his kidney, that could cause damadge to the kidney! With Brody having a Tethered spinal Cord, we were referred to go see a Neurosurgeon first to rectify his spinal cord to try improve the nerves going to the bladder! (Hopeful that it could possibly improve the function) 

On the 1st of Sep 2023 the Neurosurgeon had Diagnosed Brody with Spina Bifida and booked him for surgery! 

On the 21st of September, Brody had undergone Spinal surgery to untether his spinal cord and to remove the tumour from his spinal cord.  The Surgeon was satisfied with the surgery and discharged Brody on the 25th of Sep.

The morning of the 27th of September, Brody could hardly walk, he was in severe pain. Later the afternoon Brody could no longer move, and was constantly crying, after making contact with our Surgeon, his parents had to rush him to Hospital, upon admission he was taken to ICU where they had started antibiotics and pain management due to infection. The next morning, mom and Brody were prepped for theatre, Brody had undergone spinal surgery again to repair the wound, find the spinal fluid leak, drain the fluid and received moms Platelet-Rich Fibrin. (VIVOSTAT treatment)  

Little Brody’s parents are reaching out to you today with a heavy heart and a desperate plea for help. As you can imagine, this unexpected turn of events has placed an immense emotional and financial burden on their family over the last 30 months. Despite their best efforts, the last couple of months have been even harder on Little Brody’s family when mom lost her job in June due to company closure. His family has been relying on donations to pay for his Hospital plan, due to his complex conditions and recurring infections he depends on his Hospital plan and can't go without it.

With Brody needing unplanned emergency Surgery, the medical expenses have quickly escalated beyond their means. Unfortunately, not all the cost of his surgeries are covered by the Hospital plan, due to exlusions and Dr. that charges above medical Aid rates!
