The KDC Project
The KDC Project has been running , officially since 2014. This is a small charity focused on promoting dance within the community and nurturing hidden talents of the youth within that community, with the aim of helping them through to establishing a succesful future. The main branch of the project is consists of 15 dancers - ages ranging from 6yrs and 21yrs.
The other branch of our program is working within schools to find and nurture a love of dance. From this, students are then enlisted into the main branch for additional classes at To the Pointe school of ballet. At present we have had to put these school classes on hold due to lack of funding. We are hoping that through stronger sponsorship we can expand on our work.
Our project takes on a holistic approach in that we are actively involved our student's lives - not only do we nurture their talent but we educate and guide them through life's various challenges, with the aim of preventing them entering a life of crime.
In 2014 we took our KDC Project on a Summer school to Scotland - our aim was to show them that there are lots of different opportunties in Dance and that they can achieve if they put their mind to it. It was an eductional tour as well. Two of our stduents were awarded scholarships to return to the Summer School, which we did in 2014.
The KDC Project is linked up to To the Pointe school of ballet. Students of the KDC project attend dance classes at To the Pointe school of ballet. The KDC Project also has a strong relationship with Waterfront theatre school. To date, two KDC dance students have been awarded dance scholarships to attend the Waterfront Theatre School to complete their studies. We are hoping to continue building on this relationship int he future , with more students continuing their training at Waterfront theatre school. Elvis has just complted his first year - he recieved the highest results for ballet in the school.
In order for us to really make a success of this project and continue to help students achieve their goals, we need substantial funding for the ever increasing transport costs, examination entry fees and dance attire requirements, which do not form part of scholarships.
Our KDC Project has recently been given scholarships to attend the upcoming Winter Dance school in George. We now desperately need to raise funds for our accommodation and transport costs.
