La Leche League South Africa
La Leche League South Africa (LLLSA) is a national Volunteer-Run Non-Profit Organization that is affiliated with La Leche League International, the world-recognized authority on breastfeeding for over 60 years.
La Leche League's mission is to help mothers worldwide to breastfeed through mother-to-mother support, encouragement, information and education, and to promote a better understanding of breastfeeding as an important element in the healthy development of the baby and mother.
La Leche League volunteers (Leaders) are experienced breastfeeding mothers, trained and accredited by LLLSA Leaders that help other mothers with questions and concerns about breastfeeding. LLL provides support and information for parents in special circumstances like premature babies, multiple births, babies with cleft of the soft palate, babies with Down's Syndrome and many others.
LLLSA is active on governmental and non-goverment bodies working for the promotion and protection of breastfeeding in South Africa. Our Peer Counselling Programme has already trained more than 400 volunteers, largely from disadvantaged communities, to work as breastfeeding counsellors.
