Mandeville Aquatics Disability Swimming Centre of Excellence
An inspiring squad of black disabled swimmers are rasing funds to participate various swimming events in South Africa such as the Midmar Mile and the Senior National Champioships (Durban April 2017).
These swimmers are from the Mandeville Aquatics Disability Swimming Centre of Excellence [MDS] in Johannesburg and attend Hope School [Westcliff] and Ithembelihle School [Primrose]. They come to Mandeville or Ellis Park swimming pool for training four/five times each week.
Six young Mandeville swimmers were named by Swimming South Africa as swimmers to be watched for the 2020 Paralympics Games. The elite squad is doing extremely well, improving personal best times regularly and winning medals at all the important meets.
In the February 2016 Midmar mile [category for swimmers with physical disabilities] our men swimmers took the first three places in the men’s event and we took the silver medal in the women’s event as well. In the February 2017 Midmar Mile, our men swimmers took first, second, and fifth place and our woman swimmer took first place.
