Amore Barnard Campaign

Hi everyone,

My name is Monique Viviers, and I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart to share the distressing situation my family is facing. We reside in Cape Town, but our roots are in Port Elizabeth, where my 16-year-old sister, Amoré Barnard, lives. Amoré, a vibrant grade 10 learner at Brandwag High School in Uitenhage, has recently been struck by a debilitating illness.

Approximately a month and a half ago, Amoré began experiencing excruciating neck pain caused by a nerve pinching. Despite our initial attempts to seek medical assistance, her condition worsened. Our journey started with visits to local pharmacies and clinics, leading to Livingstone Hospital. Unfortunately, the medical investigations conducted, including x-rays and CT scans, have not yielded conclusive results, leaving us in a state of uncertainty and despair.

Amoré's pain escalated to a point where she collapsed on the 8th of October, rendering her paralyzed from the neck down. In her current state, she requires urgent and specialized medical attention. She has been admitted to Uitenhage Provincial Hospital and has recently been transferred to Cuyler Hospital for further evaluation and care.

Our financial situation is dire, as we do not have medical aid. Consequently, all medical expenses, including essential tests like the crucial MRI scan Amoré needs, are being borne privately. The MRI scan alone will cost us R17,000, and additional expenses for hospitalization, medication, treatment, and specialist consultations are yet to be determined. The doctors at Cuyler Hospital have indicated that the total costs could range from R150,000 to R200,000, depending on the MRI scan results.

Amoré, once a joyful and lively girl, is now in constant pain, her tears a heartbreaking testament to her suffering. We, as a family, are deeply concerned about her well-being and desperate to provide her with the best possible medical care and treatment. We have launched a fundraising campaign to cover the mounting expenses and secure the specialized care she urgently needs.
