Mpumalanga Youth ChoirThe Mpumalanga Youth Choir was originally established in 1981 as the Eastern Transvaal Youth Choir under the protection of the then TED (Transvaal Education Department) and the initiative of John Gray. Renette Bouwer, currently choirmaster of the UJ Kingsway Choir, was the first conductor. When Esmé Solms took over in 1985, she continued the good work and built on the foundation laid by Renette. Under Esmé’s hand, they became an international prize-winning choir. The choir changed its name to the Mpumalanga Youth Choir in 1994. Although the choir is currently self-sufficient, it is still reckoned as the official provincial choir as intended by the TED in 1981. Surette Prinsloo becomes the new conductor of the choir in 2005 and leads the choir from one success to the next until she hands over to Andre Oosthuizen who is currently the conductor. In 2015 the choir enters Talent Africa where they are invited to perform in America but could not accept the invitation due to lack of funding.
The Mpumalanga Youth Choir are on their way to the 2020 World Choir Games. This organization is playing a vital role in creating youth with a shared vision of the future. Show the kids that sacrificing their weekends is worthwhile, donate and support their efforts to travel to Belgium! TIA
