Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital Trust
Nelson Mandela Children's Hospital (NMCH) is a dedicated academic paediatric referral facility serving the children of Southern Africa, irrespective of their ability to pay. It is one place where the legacy of Mr Nelson Mandela and his love for children will live on in the day to day lives of children. Every interaction will be an expression of his love and care for children.
Although a single hospital, through its training and research, NMCH builds human capacity and spreads the ethos and values of Mr Mandela throughout Southern Africa and farther abroad. It will act as a hub for health centres throughout the region. NMCH will be a turning point in how Africa views its children by providing state-of-the-art specialist care to all children who need these services. NMCH embraces a holistic healing approach that includes family support, ample space to play and be a child and also provides space for reflection and meditation.
NMCH is a 200-bed facility that includes much-needed centres of excellence, that focus on highly specialised areas of care. Centres of excellence include Nephrology, Cardiology, Oncology, Neurosurgery, Critical Care, Orthopaedic Surgery, General Paediatric Surgery- all supported by various clinical and allied health services. As an academic and research hospital, NMCH is currently training and will continue to train doctors and nurses at post graduate level and, through its links with research institutions around the world, brings new and innovative practices to Southern Africa. Through our international partnerships, we continue to be guided by global standards of best practices in care, training and research.
