Help Nicky raise funds for her health CampaignHi everyone,
My name is Nicola and I am 26 years old. Most people either know me as the quiet family member reading a book somewhere in the shade, or if I've been fortunate enough to meet you through work you know that I have a passion for writing and an even bigger one for telling other people's stories.
I am struggling to put to words what is happening to me, but I will try my best to sum it up. I apologize if I ramble.
In 2019 I was diagnosed with a form of Familial Adenomatous Polyposis. Specifically Gardner's Syndrome. This came with a lot of symptoms like osteomas, multinumary teeth, benign growths and tumors. And most importantly, hundreds if not thousands of polyps in my colon (and smaller intestine). These polyps had a 100% chance of becoming early onset colon cancer.
Within a month of my diagnosis I had a laprascopic subtotal colectomy where they basically connected my small bowel to the last part of my colon, my rectum.
I then went for routine checkups to ensure my my remaining polyps don't turn to cancer.
End of last year I had a horrible experience where I couldn't keep anything in and I was in a bunch of pain.
I went to a local hospital and they had no idea what was wrong. I called my trusted doctor, dr Gordhan, and he asked to see me immediately.
We did scopes, G and C, and that was when we found polyps have grown inside my stomach. And some of the polyps in my duodenum were becoming a risk for cancer and had to be cut out and biopsied.
He told us that we are fighting for my stomach now. I might need to have it removed.
October 10 I underwent a surgery to excise a soft tissue mass out of my lower abdomen and it was sent away for tests.
I also had a gastro and colonoscopy in which the doctor documented everything he could see to show a board of oncologists to help plan a way forward.
On the 23rd of October I am doing a Capsule Endoscopy for the first time to visualize my whole digestive tract.
I am on a medical aid, Momentum Health, and on a very high level plan, Incentive. But it only covers a certain amount of medical aid rates. My gap cover is only able to help cover co payments after 12 months since I was diagnosed before the gap cover was put in place.
My plea today is for help to cover whatever medical costs come up, as there is a high chance that I might need to have my stomach removed or face a cancer diagnosis.
We are struggling to find ways to make up the funds for my doctor's visits and I am ashamed to say I am struggling and need help.
If you need any additional information or confirmation of what is said in this backabuddy, please reach out and I will verify anything with you.
