The Novalis Ubuntu Institute
The main objective of The Novalis Ubuntu Institute is to further education and training of adults and youth who seek to protect, care for and support the vulnerable and historically disadvantaged in education or any other vocation or career that enhances human dignity and assists in promoting social & economic growth.
Novalis was registered in 1984, as an Association Not for Gain under section 21 of the South African Companies Act.
Novalis formulates unique and innovative development strategies and frameworks for accelerated learning and has seeded many projects and programmes including initiating two colleges of education 1. Centre for Creative Education and 2. Persephone College.
This community led impulse designs its programmes out of the needs, rights and responses of its participants. Novalis Press publishes books and manuals on themes related to its mission.
Novalis is distinct in three main ways : It is an innovative leader in holsitic education and social cohesion that occupies a train the trainer niche. Over its 35 year history it has offered distinctive learning and memorable experiences with a distinctively African intentionality and tagline (i.e.Ubuntu) for those who will take this work to scale. This includes training, seminars, workshops, festivals, concerts, special events.
Novalis' mission is to ensure that every child receive a fair opportunity through sufficient and consistent exposure to minimal conditions that enable human beings to thrive. It works to ensure that this enabling environment is a reality for every child.
Novalis is sustained by grants from local and overseas agencies.
The Novalis Resource Centre and cafeteria, functions as a self-sustaining hub for its participants, civil society organisations and partners.
