I am a 49-year-old woman from Bloemfontein, who embarked on a transformative journey into weightlifting earlier this year. I committed wholeheartedly to this endeavor in January, only to encounter a significant setback in February when I suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined me for a challenging three-month period. Despite this setback, I persevered, and my dedication led me to a remarkable opportunity last weekend.

I had the privilege of participating in the SA Weightlifting Championships, competing in the Senior Category alongside some of the most accomplished lifters in the nation. This marked my very first foray into a national championship event, and the experience was nothing short of extraordinary.

Now, I find myself at a crossroads. The Masters Weightlifting Championships are on the horizon, scheduled for the weekend of November 19th, and initially, I had resigned myself to not being able to participate due to financial constraints. However, I am reevaluating my decision and am determined to explore every avenue to secure the necessary funds to make this dream a reality.

This journey has been nothing short of a personal triumph. I've shed 10 kilograms and transformed my metabolic health, defying the odds and exceeding my own expectations. I take immense pride in what I've accomplished and view this as just the beginning of my mission to inspire and assist others in making similar lifestyle changes, ultimately leading to healthier lives.

The competition will take place during the weekend of 17 November in Port Shepstone.

Breakdown of funds:

Flights - R5500

Accommodation - R2500 (3 nights)

Car Hire - R2500 for 3 days. Competition is in Port Shepstone, which is an hour from the airport.

Coaching Fee - R3000 (this is to ensure I have a coach available during the weekend. I will cover the rest of his expenses out of pocket).
