Rugby Riding for Rhino's
The South African National Parks’ Rhino Management Plan has been designed with a core strategy of conserving our heritage. The Plan is extensive and includes the cooperation of various departments within SANParks from Environmental Crime Investigations, physical anti poaching operations, research and population expansion programmes and taking care of the Rhino orphans of the war. SANParks receives 12% of their operational budget from the Government and the organisation depends on fund raising initiatives and creating awareness for a very necessary cause.
The Jaco Buys Trust is being established as a vehicle to provide opportunities to raise funds as well as creating awareness to assist the efforts of the men and ladies on the ground. The Trustees will include Kobus De Wet, Head of SANParks Environmental Crimes investigations, Jaco Buys and an independent member of the legal entity, TMJ Attorneys. All funds raised will be handed over to SANParks on a 6 monthly basis in the form of equipment or training provided. The process prevents fraud and corruption as tender approved suppliers will be paid by the Trust based on SANParks requirements. Official hand overs are documented and feedback given to donors via email and social media. Financial statements will be made available for public consumption.
Players of the Lions Rugby Union approached SANParks and expressed the desire to become Rhino Ambassadors. The project has the blessing of both the CEO of the Golden Lions Rugby Union, Rudolph Straeuli and SANParks Head of Special Operations, Maj Gen Johan Jooste and players support the initiative in their personal capacity. We are utilizing the popularity of the players, especially in light of reaching three consecutive Super Rugby Finals, and they freely offer their time as ambassadors. Our contact and coordinator representing the Lions Rugby players, is Lions and Springbok Prop Julian Redelinghuys.
We are expanding the opportunities provided by our partnership and would like to register Rugby Riding for Rhinos as our Charitable Team to ride for a purpose. We plan to involve and invite players of all rugby unions and teams, the public and supporter base to meet and cycle with their heroes, as well as meeting the heroes behind the scenes that are part of the SANParks Rhino Management Team. We intend to have a meet and greet, the evening before the race as well as a presentation of the SANParks Rhino Management Plan.
Marketing will be done through all the social media platforms once we receive authorisation from 94.7 Cycling Race Management. We are planning to have the event annually and believe that our after event marketing of handing over equipment, will create a positive impact not only for SANParks, the Lions Rugby Union and the Jaco Buys Trust, but also for the 94.7 Cycle Race.
Thanking you in advance for time and consideration.
