Hartscapes landscaping fundraiser Campaign

My heart aches as I write these words. I am Shanyn-Dee Hart, the daughter of Deanne Hart, the driving force behind Hartscapes Landscaping. Just yesterday, our lives were shattered when a horrific accident unfolded, involving my mother and her dedicated team of Peter, Jones, Tyson, Robert, Simba, and Trust. They are more than coworkers; they are a family bonded by years of shared experiences.

The accident left them all miraculously alive but heartbreakingly injured. My mother's vehicle, which she had just begun financing, is now gone. And worse yet, none of them will be able to work for the foreseeable future. The injuries they sustained are nothing short of devastating – broken bones,  and a future marred by uncertainty. My mother's first thoughts, even as she lay injured herself, were for her team and her husband.

Compounding the tragedy, my father, her husband, is a paraplegic battling acute bone-deep ulcers, heart failure, and diabetes. She was his lifeline, providing round-the-clock care. Now, in her absence, he too faces an uncertain future, with frailty and pain as his constant companions.

The men in this accident are not just the breadwinners for their families; they are the pillars of strength upon which their loved ones depend. They are husbands, fathers, and providers. Robert has a wife and a precious 8-month-old baby. Tyson is married with a son. Trust has two sons and a devoted wife. Jones is a loving husband and father of two. Peter supports seven children and a loving wife. Simba too has a family who relies on him. These women must now embark on the daunting task of finding work while shouldering the immense responsibility of caring for their wounded husbands and children.

The road to recovery is long, with most injuries requiring 4-6+ months to heal fully. For everyone except my mother, their homes are in Masiphumelele and Ocean View, where monthly rents are approximately R2000. These resilient men were earning R350 a day, ensuring a monthly income of around R7000. My mother's rental in Plumstead stands at R9000, and the caregiver she needs costs a minimum of R7000 per month. If we consider a 4-month period for those without broken femurs (6 months for those with), the cost stands at R140,000 for Jones, Peter, Robert, Trust, and Tyson to recover while keeping a roof over their heads and food on their tables. Simba faces an additional two months of recovery, amounting to R42,000. My mother's rent and caregiver salary for six months will total R96,000. In total, we need to raise R278,000 to ensure these brave souls can heal with some peace of mind that their families will be taken care of.

However much money is raised, I promise to ensure that each one of them receives the support they need. In the meantime, I am by their sides, visiting them in the hospital and preparing meals. Your contribution, no matter the size, will make a world of difference in their lives during this challenging journey of recovery.
