Sparrows Child and Youth Care Centre
Sparrows is an award-winning statutory residential care facility for children between 2 and 18 years old who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, and orphaned (Orphaned and Vulnerable Children / OVC).
Registered in the Children's Act of 2005, Sparrows is variously known as a Child and Youth Care Centre in terms of the act, a Children's Home generally, or an orphanage in archaic terms.
Sparrows provide therapeutic and developmental programs as the Children's Act 2005 requires. The Department of Social Development funds approximately 80% of the required budget for these services.
The rest of the funding required must be raised from corporate and individual donors. Situated in the rural town of Tarkastad in the Eastern Cape, Sparrows has achieved clean financial audits since its establishment in 2000.
