Sunrise Special Care Centre
Sunrise Special Care Centre is a non-profit organisation that was established in 1988. For the last 30 years, we have dedicated all the resources at our centre to nurturing the daily needs of special-care children. These children all come from the Cape Flats and many rely solely on the Centre for their every day care and developmental needs.
Our main sponsor has withdrawn this year to concentrate on the water crisis in the greater Western Cape area. Despite this predicament, our staff, volunteers and principal have not wavered in their dedication to the centre, the upkeep of its facilities and the care of the children.
Earlier this year, we discovered one such child, who is autistic and unable to walk or speak, whose family from the Cape Flats are struggling financially and unable to afford our school fees. A very generous group of women in the community donated funds paying his fees and transport since the beginning of the year. His mom has said that getting on the school bus to Sunrise Special Care Centre every day has made all the difference to him. She can tell because he giggles when the bus approaches their home.
These funds are, however, running out. We would love for him and other special needs children on the Cape Flats to not have to bear the extra burden of being unable to afford to attend a school that caters for their needs. They, too, have the right to learn, just like any able-bodied child does.
We are, therefore, looking for an initial donation of R 5000 to pay for this young boy's school fees and transport for a year. Any additional funding would be incredibly useful to the school in attending to the needs of other children just like him.
