South African Music And Entertainment Campaign
Hello. I am Summer-Raine, Editor in Chief of a South African Based Music & Entertainment Magazine. I am also a mother to 5 insanely awesome humans. Four of which are adults. My little late comer, the Princess, arrived after birthing 4 sons. My daughter chose to show up just as my marriage of 16 years came crashing down. I ended up with a truly raw deal in my divorce and have lived a remarkably unglamorous existence since. If there is one thing I want more than anything, it's to show my daughter that if you can dream it, you can achieve it.For the past six years I have dedicated most of my waking hours promoting South African, African and international artists on my online magazine website. I have always loved music, it was my 'go to' during a pretty troubled and chaotic childhood under the rule of a somewhat cold and negligent father.
Back in the 80's as a child, I personally dreamed of playing the piano like Richard Clayderman someday and becoming an actress, but my father frowned upon my dreams and found it laughable. It was inevitable that I would be drawn to this industry as an adult.
In the beginning of starting the magazine I had a side job from home, so this enabled me to alternate between the two, having a small income, and running the magazine, which I have run alone with no particular skills.
I unfortunately do not have a degree or any education in marketing, but what I do have is a burning passion for music, particularly African and South African Music, and the God given talent to write and excel in the English language.
My little magazine has grown from strength to strength over the years. I have made contacts and connections with large labels, media houses and artists, here in South Africa, and internationally, who recognize and acknowledge my efforts. Who turn to me to publish for them.
The problem is, thank you doesn't pay my bills or put food on the table. Thank you doesn't help me pay transport and photographers who cover events on my behalf. Thank you doesn't help me pay for marketing to take my magazine to the next level, upgrade the website, or subscribe for professional SEO services. We have never even had an official launch and I literally dream of that!
I would also like to hire staff members along the way. By this, creating much needed employment for an up and coming journalist, an inhouse photographer and a website pro/marketing manager. One of my favourite African proverbs has always been, "If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go with others"
So, with help, God willing, my team will then need equipment such as a professional camera, microphone, laptops (3x, as I have my own), amongst other things. This expansion will be dependent on how successful my fundraiser is received.
I intend keeping this fundraiser permanent and excitedly anticipate keeping my God sent sponsors updated with all the progress I make along this journey. A winner is a dreamer who never gives up right!
Besides these things, I currently earn absolutely nothing from the hours of my life that I dedicate to the magazine. We merely exist on the most minimum child support from my ex. I also know I cannot quit, because there is another little dreamer watching me.
For all of these reasons, I have decided to put my pride in my pocket and put myself out there with this campaign. So that my family can be proud of me for turning this 'Dream' into a legitimate business, whereby I am able to support my 11 year old daughter with an income at last. Where I can employ other unemployed dreamers, and where I can support the phenomenal music artists relying on me to give them this platform. Without the hindering limitations I face due to lack of finance.
I will be hugely appreciative of any donations no matter how small towards realizing my lifelong dream.
Please support my cause. You totally rock!
Much Love Summer-Raine
