SUNFIELD HOME (HOWICK)
Sunfield Home is a Non-Profit organization, situated in Howick, which cares for and houses 111 intellectually impaired residents ranging in age from 18 to 73 years. It has been in existence for 63 years. Our mission at Sunfield Home is to provide a caring home-from-home environment for a wide spectrum of intellectually impaired adults, involving our residents in appropriate occupational, recreational and sporting activities that will enhance their lifelong well-being. We are committed to a non-racial, loving and caring environment, which has made us a leading organisation in our field.
At Sunfield, we feel strongly that we must give back to the community in any way we can. We have two outreach projects: a free Caregiver’s Course which empowers people to care for the sick, mentally challenged and aged in their communities, and the sponsorship of another non- profit organization which concerns itself with the welfare of desperately needy children within the area of Umgeni Municipality, focusing on breaking the cycle of indigence and deprivation.
The bulk of our funding comes from residents’ fees and a certain amount of Governmental assistance, but this is insufficient to support our residents and maintain the Home. Sunfield is active in fundraising to generate much needed income which is used to ensure optimal care for the residents as well as going towards the upkeep and maintenance of our buildings. In addition, any financial help is used to assist in subsidizing our 10 financially challenged residents, who are totally dependent on the Home for all their needs.
