Thárros Child and Youth Care Centre is a home that gives temporary safe care to babies and children affected by abuse, neglect and abandonment. The children are placed with us through the courts and stay with us for 6 months.
At Thárros we are resolute in giving not only security, but a home filled with love, joy and blessings. We allow our children to be individuals, providing the space and freedom for them to learn, grow and develop their emotional intelligence, and in so doing, to become stronger day by day.
In keeping with our homely feel, children receive age specific instruction and development plans. Those under 6 years attend our in-house kindergarten, learning the necessary skills in a fun and exciting environment. From the age of 7 years, children attend public school and receive homework support from our volunteer team.
Therapeutic Programmes vary from formal group workshops and counselling session, to more relaxed techniques of expression such as yoga, mediation and play therapy. Sport, spiritual awareness and cultural activities are important components of our week and we rely substantially on volunteers to provide these necessary skills.
Thárros children love to go on excursions and in the past these have included hikes, beach outings, and visiting farms in the area. We always welcome visitors to our centre and appreciate any form of volunteer work offered.
