Titans Women's Rugby Academy
Our charity uses Sport as a tool to empower women and girls from the grassroots level and up. We provide after school programs rugby bases at 6 primary schools & 3 high Schools in our previously disadvantaged areas or location schools as it's known by where resources and opportunities are rare and where your down thumb activities are a real threat for our youth.
We were established 14 years ago in Hornlee a rural area in Knysna. Over the years we have worked with thousands of kids as part of our program. Two of the ladies successfully made it into the Springbok Women's Rugby set up with one of them currently a contracted rugby player with a formal qualification as a fallback once her career finishes. 6 others were selected into the National training squads of SA Rugby. More than 50 of these kids were selected into provincial rugby teams over the last 14 years.
We use mainly unemployed volunteers with our afterschool programs that come and go. We collect the girls from the various school and transport them 4 to 5 days a week to the rugby field about 5-7 kilometers away from the various locations.
