Assisting Angus Campaign

After going into complete remission in December 2020, Angus was unfortunately diagnosed once again with Stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma in March 2022. This time it has spread not only to the stem cells but also to the liver and spleen, amongst other organs. In the doctors words it had "spread significantly throughout his body".

And so started the rounds of chemo, constant trips to the hospital and stress over Angus health. Also the preperations for a stem cell transplant, which the doctors assured us was the only way to come out on top of this thing.

Angus continued to work through 2022 until he could no longer physically keep it up in February 2023. In March 2023 they finally did the stem cell transplant, which appears to have been successful. Unfortunately we cannot get a definitive answer on that yet because in July Angus contracted a form of strep pneumonia (strep pneumonia on steroids) and was admitted to hospital again, this time for a thoracotomy (lung surgery) and was there for a month. He has been discharged but the recovery time from this surgery is 6 - 8 months. Once the lung infection is totally healed we will be able to do the necessary scans to check if the cancer is gone or is still hanging around.

Angus is only earning a SASSA disability grant at the moment (which is R2000) and I am currently unemployed (and searching desperately for work). Our medical bills are up at over R100 000, even at the subsidized rate we get at Groote Schuur Hospital. We are living with family, which helps alot with expenses.
