Appeal for Assistance for Jan Henderson Campaign

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing with a heavy heart, seeking your kind assistance for my brother, Jan Henderson, a resilient soul who has faced immense challenges. Two years ago, a botched angiogram led to the tragic loss of his right leg, and despite enduring three amputations during this time, his indomitable spirit remains unwavering.

Jan, now 67 years old and battling rheumatoid arthritis since his youth, has shown unwavering strength in the face of countless surgeries. His unwavering positivity, alongside his wife Dorette, has been dedicated to helping those in need. They've selflessly cared for daughters rescued from abusive situations, welcoming individuals with limited means into their home.

Currently, Jan urgently requires an operation to repair and replace the mechanical joints in his elbows, essential for his mobility and overall well-being. However, due to the amputation, this operation has been postponed. His medical aid still needs to approve his prosthesis and the last feedback he received is that they will only cover up to R5000.00.

He relies on an army pension, but the rising cost of living and medical cost the past two years has caused them to fall behind on their municipal account amounting R6000.00, creating an immense financial strain. Dorette's declining health adds to their struggles, leaving Jan reliant on the help of a compassionate neighbor named Johnny.

The situation is further compounded by Jan's inability to take his arthritis medication, essential for his daily functioning, due to the ongoing healing process from the amputation.

 A legal battle against the medical practitioners responsible for the negligence is underway, but the process is lengthy, and the family's support, while heartfelt, falls short of meeting their needs.
