Kilometers for Opportunity Campaign
Who I Am:
Zukile Ncube. I am 29 years old. I am deeply passionate about unlocking the potential that the youth hold. By providing opportunities through education and sports. I firmly believe that every young person should have the opportunity to discover their possibilities. If we are to have prosperity, equipping the youth to play an important role in addressing challenges is essential and can be overcome if we provide them with the necessary skills.
Who I'm Doing This For: Supporting Young Talent
If young people can be allowed to express themselves in these areas where they learn life values and belong to a community of positivity. We can address significant societal challenges and lay a solid foundation for progress. Not everyone has an equal chance to explore their potential; This is why I've taken up the task of raising funds to support young people eager to excel in both academics and sports but who might lack the necessary resources from various spheres such as NGOs, schools and academies.
How I'm Doing It: A Mentorship Initiative
Through our mentorship initiative, we provide personalized attention, academic support, strategic planning, and life skills guidance. The funds assist students with resources and opportunities from late high school through university, covering fees, materials, and equipment. This fosters holistic, long-term development and creates a positive ripple effect across society. I have also explored study opportunities not only in SA but in Japan, where I lived for nearly four years until April 2023, and the USA. Together, we enable youth to excel and address societal challenges, laying a solid foundation for progress.
Fundraising Goals
The total race distances I'll cover is 197,000(not counting daily training), meters running and rowing on an concept2 rowing machine, which represents the goal is to raise R197,000, and I need your help to achieve it. Join me on this mission to reshape the trajectory of young lives, to unlock potential, and to ignite positive change in our communities. Together, we can help shape a future where every young person has the chance despite circumstances which they face.
Fundraising initiatives
My journey began July 16th 2023 when I ran my very first race – I ran 50 kilometers. On the 27th of August, I completed a 42.2-kilometer run followed by a 21,097-meter row, securing a new South African record along the way. In October, I'm preparing for running 42.2 kilometers at the Cape Town Marathon within 4 hours and then immediately rowing another 42.2 kilometers within 3 hours. These challenges have not been easy, but through discipline, careful planning, hard work, unwavering positivity, and incredible support, I've managed to do them – and I'm committed to continuing this journey. By venturing beyond my comfort zone and embracing challenges I've never faced before, such as learning to swim in open water and completing an Ironman and completing more ultra-distance marathons. I aim to convey a simple message: if I can do it, so can others. Even if there is failure along the way, it is important to remember that by taking on challenges one is still much further along than not trying. With the right support – mentors, positive role models, and opportunities – they can carve out new possibilities and become beacons of positivity in their communities. In my own life, I have realized there are no limits, only plateaus and we can go beyond them.
