In celebration of the great life and legacy lived by Tata Madiba, every year on International Mandela Day (18th July) South Africans would unite together,  take to the streets and change the lives of those in need.

Unfortunately, because of the pandemic, there have been strict measures set in place to help protect the lives of everyone, which has made it difficult for the public to respond to the global call to action.

Support a Technical Skills Programme for Mandela Day!

The Amy Foundation as a non-profit organization is offering free three-month programmes that teach vocational skills for youth aged 18 to 35 with matric. Their programme is in dire need of equipment and tools in order to run and teach young learners the skills needed. This Mandela day, why not support their learners by helping them raise R30 000 in order to buy the equipment they need.

Support Porky’s People in feeding the vulnerable in Pietermaritzburg

This year crowdfunding charity and good news blog site, Porky’s People, has set out to feed 67 homeless and food-insecure individuals in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal. By donating R20 to their cause on BackaBuddy, you will help one needy individual with a warm bowl of soup and a loaf of bread this Mandela Day.

Make a difference with R67 this Mandela Day!

This year, instead of asking people to volunteer 67-minutes in-person, Witkoppen Clinic is encouraging a social-distancing friendly approach to making a difference. The clinic is asking for donations of R67 (or more) towards a total goal of R67 000 to secure much-needed funding for the clinic’s FRESH Start programme, which aims to eliminate mother to child HIV transmission through medical support and education.

In the fight against animal cruelty and to provide a place of safety and care for all animals in distress, Sandton SPCA, a non-profit organisation, aims at ensuring that we create a better world for the animals that live in it. A driven young man, Lesedi Goge (19) from Pietermarizburg, wants nothing more than to study at an high educational institution. Unfortunately, due to financial misfortunes, his single mother and family cannot afford to cover the costs. Phantane Athletics Club

Non-profit organisation, Phantsane Athletics Club, has partnered with a group of female athletes who previously formed part of the Team Massmart marathon and ultra-distance running team, in hopes to cultivate young female talent in both KwaZulu Natal and Central Gauteng. With the prospects of taking part in the Cape Town Marathon (October 2021), the funds raised will be used to cover the costs of the teams expenses and needs.

Thembalethu Mazibuko Medical Cause

Stage 3 breast cancer survivor Thembelethu Mazibuko, is battling with cancer again after being diagnosed with a more invasive ‘HER2’ positive cancer. Her sister and best friend, Nokuthula, has relaunched her medical campaign to raise funds for her treatment (Chemotherapy, radiation, etc), breast reconstruction surgery, and fertility treatment and preservation.

Siyabonga Mandela Day Food Drive

Lockdown has had a dreadful impact on many South Africans but for charities like Siyabonga, it meant losing most of their private funding and sponsors.
